Abstract

[fre] Flexibilité et dissuasion dans un contexte de concurrence imparfaite. . Nous étudions, dans cet article, comment peuvent s'articuler flexibilité et dissuasion. Il y a incompatibilité entre elles lorsque la dissuation est fondée sur un engagement stratégique par lequel l'acteur qui cherche à dissuader restreint volontairement sa propre liberté d'action. Pour optimiser le choix alors inévitable, nous proposons un test avantages-coûts, formulé dans le cadre d'un modèle de duopole avec concurrence en quantités. Cependant, d'autres modalités de dissuasion existent, qui ne sont pas seulement compatibles avec la flexibilité, mais sont fondées sur celle-ci ; ce n'est pas le cas lorsqu'il y a concurrence en quantités, mais ce peut l'être lorsque les prix sont les variables de décision. [eng] Flexibility and deterrence in models of duopolistic competition. . The paper explores some aspects of the relation between flexibility and deterrence. These are incompatible when deterrence is based on a self-inflicted commitment; a cost-benefit test is proposed, within a model of duopolistic competition in quantities, for the choice that has then to be made. However, other forms of deterrence do exist, that are not only compatible with flexibility, but even based on flexibility; this is for example the case with duopolistic competition in prices and vertical differentiation.
