Abstract

[fre] Acquisition d'information, innovations et irréversibilités. . [eng] Purchase of information, innovation and irreversibiuties . . The article examines strategies in order to protect North American lakes from acid deposition. The EPA, in charge of this program, is facing uncertainties conceming the state of the lakes and the characteristics (date, scale) of technological innovation for pollution abatement, and irreversibilities affecting the choice of technology and the state of the lakes (eutrophication). We solves the EPA's program in the framework of a problem of technological choice with learning of characteristics. The main difficultes stem from non convexities associated with specifie information costs, and the description of the decision process, either forward or backward looking.
