Abstract

[eng] Migration from one region to another over the last thirty years: From attraction to indifference and indifference to attraction - A large number of people often migrate between neighbouring regions, but few regions have as high an exchange of population between each other as Île-de-France with other regions. The number of people migrating from one region to another rose steadily from 1954 on. Then, the trend changed between 1 975 and 1 982 when the numbers stabilized, declined or even dropped steeply. . As in the past, the southern regions, which are more attractive, can be opposed to the northern ones that people still leave in high numbers. But, for the first time, such regions as Languedoc - Roussillon, Limousin, Brittany, and the South-West of France, which used to hold little appeal three decades ago, are drawing more and more migrants. Conversely, more and people leave Île-de-France which used to attract a majority of other regions until 1 968. The industrial regions in the East, which used to import labour, have, in their turn, started to export it.
