Abstract

[eng] Repeated Unemployment : the Fourteen Months following the Loss of a Job - A sample of a thousand unemployed individuals living in the department of Essonne was followed for fourteen months. The jobs which they found were often precarious. Many of these unemployed actually experienced several periods of unemployment. This was particulary true for young people. In addition, those who had already held several jobs tended to find a new one more quickly, although they then lost it more quickly. The most highly qualified and best paid wage-earners received the highest unemployment benefits. Good compensation was correlated with a longer period of time in which to find a new job, but also with a greater stability in that job.
