Abstract
[eng] Large Businesses and Middle and Small Sized Firms - Utilising accounting information coming from businesses' fiscal declarations relative to commercial and industrial benefits, this study fournishes reference statistics on the relative weight and respective performance of large businesses (more than 500 employees), medium sized businesses (20 to 499 employees), and small sized businesses (less than 20 employees). With 13 500 000 units in 1973, small businesses represent 95 % of the firms studied, that is to say, non-agricultural businesses with the exception of a part of services; their weight in the total number of employees (1 9 %) and turnover figures prove to be out of proportion to their numerical importance. The large businesses bring together less than 1 % of all the businesses, yet they account for 39% of the turnover and employ 43% of the salaried employees; mediums ized businesses are equally small in number (5 %), but their place in employment and turnover figures is important, (38 % and 34 % respectively).
