Hurdle count-data models of meat consumption in Bulgaria

Abstract

Using hurdle count-data models to account for zero observations in the data, this study examines how meat consumption patterns in Bulgaria vary across households with differing income levels and demographic profiles. Estimated Negbin II hurdle models clearly establish that household income, employment status and geographic regions are important factors in determining the participation decision and consumption frequencies across 10 meats and meat products.
