Abstract

A közgazdaságtan áldása és csapása, hogy mint alkalmazott tudomány" ott jelenik meg, ahol a legritkább az egyetértés, a legkisebb a társadalmi konszenzus, a legnagyobb a valószínűsége a félreértelmezésnek és torzításnak, ahol a leghangosabbak a féligazságok és leggyakoribbak a csúsztatások: azaz a gazdaságpolitikában. Fiatal közgazda hallgatókat nehéz meggyőzni arról, hogy a közgazdaságtan intellektuálisan kiemelkedő eredményeket tud felmutatni, elmélyült kutatómunkára alkalmas terület, és színvonala nem azonos a parlamenti ülésszak előtti felszólalások színvonalával. Ha Robert Lucas teljesítményét egy mondattal akarjuk jellemezni: legnagyobb érdeme, hogy hozzájárult ahhoz, hogy a gazdaságpolitika mindenhatóságában vetett hit meginogjon, és a közgazdaságtan a gazdaságpolitika háttértudományából" ismét kiemelkedjen.
