Factors of important Tariff Information

Abstract

This publication offers insights into analysis of factors affecting the tariff protection level, inter-country and cross-sector differences regarding import tariffs. The author demonstrates that tariffs applied by countries in international trade, in addition to the general level of economic development, are also determined by the following features of ownership structure, as vertical integration and income inequality. The analysis of differences in levels of tariff shelter applied to Russian industry has shown the importance of political factors in import tariff formation. The results can be used to analyze the possibility and effects of a customs-tariff policy.
