Double-ranked set sampling

Abstract

As a variation of ranked set sampling (RSS), double-ranked set sampling technique (DRSS) is introduced and investigated. It is shown that this extension of RSS is more efficient in estimating the population mean than both RSS and simple random sampling (SRS). It is also shown, using the concept of "degree of distinguishability" between the sample observations, that ranking in the second stage is easier than that in the first stage.
