Integrating multiple data sources to measure sustainable tourism in Italian regions

Abstract

Sustainability is increasingly assuming a central role in both the economy and society. The anthropogenic pressure generated by the actions of various entities within the system must be measured across all economic sectors. Tourism, precisely because it constitutes a driver of economic development and growth for regions, cannot overlook the sustainability of tourist destinations. However, information on sustainable tourism is often fragmented and originates from diverse sources due to challenges in defining its contents. The analysis aims to develop a methodological framework for selecting indicators in the context of sustainable tourism in Italian regions, distinguishing them based on economic, social, and environmental sustainability dimensions. Additionally, the objectives include integrating these indicators and creating an integrated information dashboard to enhance data visualization, facilitating an efficient and comparative assessment of performance across diverse territories.
