Graphene's potential in the future industrial development of China

Abstract

The Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of strategic emerging industries and has introduced a number of policies and measures to promote the innovation. One nanotechnology material, known as graphene, has long been regarded as one of the most promising technologies. One purpose of stimulating the graphene industry is to promote diversification of nano carbon technology and advance the industrialization and marketization. This paper first reviews the current situation of the Chinese graphene industrial development from the aspect of resource endowment, technical condition, cost price, industrial alliance and pilot demonstration, etc. and further analyzes the policy environment with respect to the development plan and industrial regulation. Based on the current situation description, the paper then discusses the internalities (5 strengths and 5 weaknesses) and the externalities (3 opportunities and 4 threats) that have driven the graphene's potential development in China by illustrating the SWOT analysis. Through the analysis, some research conclusions and policy proposals are finally put forward to provide guiding idea for the Chinese graphene sector.
