Impact of COVID-19 on air transport passenger markets: Examining evidence from the Chinese market

Abstract

•A disaggregated airline/airport analysis of Chinese aviation markets was performed.•Chinese domestic markets are less impacted by COVID-19 than international markets.•The traffic of well financed/funded airline is likely to rebound earlier.•Premium and discretionary leisure traffic is likely to take longest to recover.•Airport impacts depend on airlines served, mix of traffic and location.
