Abstract

The recent management literature on Research and Development (R&D) partnerships mainly focuses on relationships between industrial firms in the context of public policy incentives. These studies leave unanswered questions concerning the particular case of public or semi-public scientific collaborations, hardly comparable to industrial R&D consortia. In order to better understand this new research object, we propose to analyse it as an agglomerate collective strategy in a case study of the ATLAS collaboration, a particle physics experiment currently being installed at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.
