Los procesos de aglomeración en Colombia a la luz de la nueva geografía económica

Abstract

Desde su aparición a comienzos de los anos noventa,con los trabajos de Krugman, Venables, Fujita yotros autores, la Nueva Geografía Económica" haabierto numerosos frentes de investigación teóricaal mostrar cómo la combinación de retornos crecientesa escala, las imperfecciones del mercado ylos costos de transporte crean una serie de fuerzas"centrípetas" y "centrífugas" que, junto con las dotacionesde los factores, determinan la distribuciónde las actividades económicas en el espacio.En esta investigación, utilizando datos para los municipioscolombianos, se estiman los parámetrosestructurales del modelo desarrollado por Helpman(1995) y Hanson (1998), que se ha convertido en lamejor alternativa para contrastar empíricamente laNueva Geografía Económica. Los resultados confirmanla existencia de una estructura espacial desalarios en Colombia, así como un fortalecimientode los procesos de aglomeración alrededor de lasprincipales ciudades del país, y muy especialmenteen torno a Bogotá."
