Optionen für eine nachhaltige Energieversorgung

Abstract

Strom als eine in Deutschland besonders CO2-intensive Energieform spielt beim Klimaschutz eine herausragende Rolle. Im Jahr 2009 war die Stromerzeugung für fast die Hälfte der deutschen CO2-Emissionen des Energiebereichs verantwortlich. Die Erzeugung von Energie basiert nach wie vor in allen Bereichen im Wesentlichen auf dem Einsatz fossiler Rohstoffe, im Strombereich in Deutschland vorzugsweise auf Kohle. Für den Stromsektor sind technologische Alternativen bereits vorhanden oder befinden sich in der fortgeschrittenen Entwicklungsphase. Martin Faulstich, Michael Weber, Christian Hey, Sachverständigenrat für Umweltfragen, und Matthias Herms, Technische Universität München, zeigen die zwei aus Sicht des Sachverständigenrats für Umweltfragen möglichen Lösungsansätze zur Erreichung einer dekarbonisierten Stromerzeugung auf: die Steigerung der Energieeffizienz und den Ausbau der erneuerbaren Energien. Die Reduzierung der Stromnachfrage durch Steigerung der Effizienz sei zunächst eine entscheidende Voraussetzung für die Transformation der Stromerzeugung. Viele Möglichkeiten, Energie zu sparen, seien zudem kostengünstig und relativ einfach umzusetzen. Andererseits sei die Nutzung der erneuerbaren Energien die einzig nachhaltige Form der Stromerzeugung. Die zu bewerkstelligende hundertprozentige Umstellung sei jedoch so grundlegend struktureller Natur, dass ihre Umsetzung staatliche Eingriffe in den Energiemarkt benötige.
