Innovation and the local workforce

Abstract

type="main" xml:lang="es"> Hemos combinado datos de innovación a nivel de empresa con datos censuales a nivel de área para examinar la relación entre las características de la mano de obra local, en particular la presencia de inmigrantes y las capacidades locales, y la probabilidad de innovación por parte de las empresas. Hemos examinado una serie de resultados de innovación, y puesto a prueba la relación con subgrupos seleccionados de empresas. Hemos encontrado una relación positiva entre las características de la fuerza laboral local y los resultados promedio de innovación en áreas del mercado laboral, pero esto se explica por la variación en características de las empresas, tales como el tamaño de la empresa, el sector y los gastos en investigación y desarrollo. Una vez controladas estas influencias, no hemos encontrado ninguna prueba sistemática de un vínculo independiente entre las características de la fuerza laboral local y la innovación.
