Language Policy at School of Education, Tadulako University in ASEAN Economic Community Era

The research aims at investigating the Language Education Policy in supporting the SEA Teacher Project at Faculty of Education, Tadulako University. It has become one of Teacher Training Colleges in Indonesia that was selected to be a partner institution of SEA Teacher Programs a long with other Teacher Training Colleges from universities of three Southeast Asian countries which include Philiphines, Thailand and Vietnam. The SEA Teacher Program has given opportunities to the prospective teachers from Faculty of Eduction Tadulako University to have overseas teaching practicum experience. The student teachers who are interested in joining the SEA teacher project must have good skills of English and pedagogical knowledge. The research employs qualitative approach with the main instruments of data collections including Observation, In-dept Interview and Documentation. The research sites are at study programs within Faculty of Education involved in the collaborative programs with SEA Teacher Project. And the informants selected consist of six key inforamants. They are informants from student side, study program representatives and faculty leaders. Furthermore, the data of documentation and observations were taken from study program offices and from the teaching and learning activities in the classroom. The research findings show that that the language education policy has supported and motivated the selected students to be able to use instructional language in English with important related technical terms. The recruitment systems of SEA Teacher program is improved gradually. The SEA Teacher Management has leanrt a lot from their students experience and their own. The sudents have got better overseas teaching experinces from target universities and schools where they were placed during SEA Teacher programs
