Eiszeit für den "Kalten Frieden" zwischen Ägypten und Israel: Wie sich der Gaza-Krieg auf die bilateralen Beziehungen auswirkt

Abstract

Der Terrorangriff der Hamas vom 7. Oktober 2023 und die darauffolgende israelische Militärintervention im Gaza-Streifen bedeuten auch eine Zäsur für die Beziehungen zwischen Ägypten und Israel. Diese wurden während der Präsidentschaft Abdel Fattah al-Sisis im wirtschaftlichen und sicherheitspolitischen Bereich immer weiter ausgebaut. Nun sind sie geprägt von gegenseitigen Anschuldigungen: Während Ägypten der israelischen Führung vorwirft, auf eine Vertreibung der Bevölkerung des Gaza-Streifens auf den Sinai hinzuarbeiten, kritisiert Israel Ägyptens vermeintliche Unterstützung der Hamas. Beide Vorwürfe sind keineswegs unbegründet; auch Deutschland und seine europäischen Partner sollten sie sehr ernst nehmen. Dabei ist zu empfehlen, dass die Bundesregierung bei ihrer Ablehnung einer Vertreibung den Schulterschluss mit Ägypten sucht. Andererseits gilt es, Israels Forderung zu unterstützen, dass eine zukünftige Sicherung der Grenze zwischen Ägypten und dem Gaza-Streifen nicht allein durch Kairo erfolgen kann.
