Abstract

Seit Schumpeters Tod im Jahre 1950 ist eine Vielzahl biographischer Essays**erschienen, die teils mit nostalgischer Schwärmerei, teils mit distanzierter Kühle von der facettenreichen Persönlichkeit Schumpeters Zeugnis ablegen. Im folgenden wird versucht, aus diesen Berichten eine Art strukturiertes Persönlichkeitsbild Schumpeters zu gewinnen, das zum Verständnis seines Werks von Bedeutung sein könnte. Wir werden Schumpeter dabei von drei verschiedenen Perspektiven betrachten, die m.E. für ihn, charakteristisch sind, nämlich - Schumpeter, der Ästhet (I), - Schumpeter, der Individualist (II), und - Schumpeter, der elitäre Denker (III). Zugegeben, derartige Blickwinkel engen die Analyse künstlich ein und werden insofern einer komplexen Persönlichkeit nicht gerecht; als erste Annäherung sollten sie uns jedoch einen nützlichen Dienst erweisen.
