Der Beschäftigungsbeitrag mittelständischer Exportunternehmen

Abstract

Die Studie zeigt, dass sich insbesondere kapitalintensiv gefertigte Produkte, deren Fertigung mit hohen Skaleneffekten verbunden ist, für den Außenhandel eignen. Entsprechend treten vor allem Unternehmen aus dem Produzierenden Gewerbe und dem distributiven Sektor als Exporteure auf. Die Erbringer von Dienstleistungen sind kaum exportaktiv. Tendenziell weisen Großunternehmen im höheren Maße Auslandsaktivitäten auf als KMU. Im Hinblick auf die Bedeutung des Exports für die Beschäftigung in Deutschland belegt eine nach Sektoren differenzierte Betrachtung, dass in fast allen Wirtschaftszweigen die exportierenden Unternehmen eine überdurchschnittliche Beschäftigungsentwicklung aufweisen. Allerdings war deren Beschäftigungsentwicklung in den Abschwungjahren 2008/09 unterdurchschnittlich. Die kleinen und mittleren unter den exportierenden Unternehmen weisen durchgehend eine positivere Beschäftigungsentwicklung als die exportierenden Großunternehmen auf. Zudem waren sie durch den Konjunktureinbruch in den Jahren 2008/09 deutlich weniger betroffen.
