Abstract

Neue Technologien, Firmenperformance und Beschäftigung Erste Analysen basierend auf österreichischen Firmendaten This publication is available in German language only. Dieser Bericht untersucht basierend auf Firmendaten für Österreich – der IKTU-Erhebung und den LSE Daten – den Zusammenhang von neuen Technologien mit der Firmenperformance und Beschäftigungsstrukturen. Neue Technologien – untersucht werden der Einsatz von Robotern, 3D Druck, Big-Data-Analysen, Verwendung von Cloud- und Chat-Services, CRM-Software oder automatisierter Datenaustausch, Verwendung sozialer Medien sowie auch die Beschäftigung von IKT Spezialisten und -Spezialistinnen bzw. die Durchführung von IKT-Schulungen – korrelieren stark positiv mit der Größe der Firmen gemessen am Umsatz, der Beschäftigung und den Investitionen. Firmen, die neue Technologien verwenden, sind auch durchschnittlich produktiver und zahlen durchschnittlich etwas höhere Löhne. Letzteres gilt jedoch nicht, wenn man auch für die Größe kontrolliert. Es zeigen sich keine signifikanten Wachstumseffekte in Bezug auf diese Variablen, und somit finden sich auch keine signifikanten Beschäftigungseffekte, die – wie oftmals befürchtet – von der Anwendung der neuen Technologien ausgehen. Auch hinsichtlich der Beschäftigungsstrukturen (unter Kontrolle von Firmengröße) – untersucht wurden der Anteil von Frauen, geringfügig bzw. Teilzeitbeschäftigten und der Anteil der Lehrlinge – finden sich kaum signifikante bzw. robuste Resultate dahingehend, dass sich Firmen, die neue Technologien anwenden, von denen unterscheiden, die das nicht tun. Auch hier gibt es keinerlei Hinweise darauf, dass sich die Beschäftigungsanteile bei den beiden Typen der Firmen unterschiedlich stark verändern. Diese Resultate können und sollen auf Basis der hier verwendeten und weiterer Daten als Grundlage für weitere Untersuchungen dienen (z. B. für detailliertere Beschäftigungsstrukturen), um mögliche Auswirkungen der „digitalen Revolution“ auf Beschäftigung auf Firmenebene besser abschätzen zu können. New technologies, company performance and employment First analyses based on Austrian company data Based on company level data for this report analyses the connection between new technologies and company performance and employment structures. New technologies - the use of robots, 3D printing, big data analyses, the use of cloud and chat services, CRM software or automated data exchange, the use of social media as well as the employment of ICT specialists and the provision of ICT training are examined - correlate strongly and positively with the size of companies in terms of turnover, employment and investment. Companies that use new technologies are also more productive and pay slightly higher wages on average. However, the latter does not apply if one also controls for size. There are no significant growth effects in relation to these variables, and thus there are no significant employment effects resulting from the use of new technologies, as is often feared. Regarding employment structures (controlling for company size) - the share of women, marginal and part-time employees and the share of apprentices were also analysed - there are hardly any significant or robust results indicating that companies that use new technologies differ from those that do not. Here too, there are no indications that the employment shares of the two types of companies change to different degrees. Based on the data used here and other data, these results can and should serve as a basis for further analyses (e.g. for more detailed employment structures) to better assess the possible effects of the ‘digital revolution’ on employment at company level.
