Abstract

This paper presents the methodology for calculating the Labor Market Quality Index (IQT) for the metropolitan regions of Brazil. The IQT attempts to address the lack of a general indicator on the quality of the country’s local labor markets, with a quarterly frequency, easily interpreted and supported in the literature. In this way, we aim to provide a general index that can be used to monitor the short and long-term behavior of regional markets and that can serve as a thermometer for the effect of changes in the economy. At the same time, its simplicity of interpretation should facilitate the use by those interested in assessing the impact of public policies on local labor markets.
