Abstract

The great Dutch humanist Erasmus said in the seventeenth century that the future of a nation is determined by the way it prepares its youth. Romania of the XXI century, as we receive it today, was prepared since the second half of the nineteenth century. That was the time when the rapid modernization of all institutions of Romania, who had a strong feudal character, began. This development was mainly due to money from the export of grains of the great aristocratic landowners belonging to the elite, who have contributed with money to the development of education and schools of all grades. The effort was huge. In a short period, from 1859 to 1918, despite social inequalities and the fact that some people lived in huts, the differences that situated us at the periphery of Europe were put aside.
