Abstract

The world energy system is going through serious changes under the influence of a number of factors. On the one hand, the economic growth of developing countries shifts energy demand to increasingly higher levels, raising prices, and stimulating investment in both geological exploration, development of mining technologies, and the development of renewable energy sources around the world. On the other hand, technological progress, the unrealized potential for energy efficiency of energy demand, the growing environmental burden from the use of fossil fuels, global climate change, lead to a reduction in final energy demand and a change in its structure in favor of more "clean" sources. For Russia, the largest producer and exporter of energy resources, understanding and forecasting these changes is an important and urgent task in the formation of a long-term growth strategy.
