Abstract

There are many manufacturer-retailer outlets found in Pakistan (nowadays) but, the focus of this report will mainly be on the Textile industry i.e. Bed and Bath, Chen One, Ideas (Gul Ahmed), Habitt (manufacturer Al Abid Textile Mills), which in turn has gained more credibility as a result of the direct access to the consumers. Gul Ahmed has long been in the business for its fabrics, for men and women, apart from home textile trappings and it now too, has ventured into the manufacturer-retailer arena with Ideas - the brand's own outlet at Clifton. The methodology being adapted in the report will be based on primary and secondary research both, with the help of convenience sampling and structured questionnaire (from customers), observations on the outlets, interviews from the managers of the outlets & also with the customers; to get an insight as to why such changes have taken place. The main scope of conducting research on such topic is to see and predict the upcoming retailing trends, in textile industry, in future and the reasons behind their evolvement and also the latest challenges faced by manufacturers/retailers & its possible solutions. The study will have five folds (independently); 1. First of all to identify the basic reasons as to why manufacturers are moving towards forward integration, what are the forces behind such change. 2. The Second purpose is to elaborate on the opportunities and challenges faced by manufacturers in the retailing business. 3. Third part focuses on highlighting the strategic planning, pricing & the promotional strategies etc they carried out for the start up of their retail outlets. 4. Fourth part will consist of comparative analysis internally (between manufacturing and manufacturer retailing business. 5. Fifth and the last part of this research consist of consumer perception towards the growing need of retail business and their attitude towards it, also why more and more people are attracted towards manufacturer-retailers and not ordinary retailers.
