Disposición a pagar y adopción de innovaciones genéticas: el caso del arroz resistente a herbicidas

Abstract

El desarrollo de innovaciones en genética vegetal y en particular las vinculadas con la resistencia a herbicidas en plantas, ofrece ventajas económicas y de producción muy relevantes. El caso del arroz es particularmente interesante ya que es el cultivo comestible más importante del mundo y porque existen variedades de arroz con resistencia a herbicidas (HR) que se han desarrollado en Argentina. El trabajo presenta un análisis de los determinantes de adopción y la disposición a pagar (DAP) por la variedad de arroz HR Gurí INTA CL que se comercializa desde la campaña 2011/12. Los resultados de las estimaciones muestran que la DAP media por arroz HR se encuentra en un rango entre 2 kg. y 2.1 kg de arroz cáscara por kg. de semilla HR mientras que el precio de mercado es de 2.5 kg. Nuestros resultados, y la comparación con otros casos, sugieren que este diferencial es pequeño y que una adecuada estrategia de precios y comercialización es clave para facilitar la diseminación de la semilla legal.
