Die Governance von Open-Source-Projekten

Abstract

Das open source entwickelte Betriebssystem Linux setzt den Quasi- Monopolisten Microsoft gefährlich unter Druck. Diese Entwicklung ist aus einer organisationsökonomischen Perspektive deswegen bemerkenswert, weil hinter Linux kein hierarchisches Unternehmen mit zentraler Steuerung und einem Gewinnmaximierungsziel steht, sondern eine lose zusammengewürfelte Gruppe von Freiwilligen - eine sogenannte Open-Source-Community -, die sich dezentral organisiert und die von ihr entwickelten Programme frei zur Verfügung stellt. In unserem Beitrag untersuchen wir, unter welchen Bedingungen Beitragsleister in einem Open-Source-Projekt professionelle Arbeit verrichten, ohne dafür ein Gehalt zu erhalten. Wir unterstellen dabei, dass die Beitragsleister durchaus unterschiedliche Teilnahmemotive haben. Der Fokus liegt daher auf der Frage, wie eine Governance-Struktur gestaltet sein muss, innerhalb derer sich die unterschiedlichen Interessen realisieren lassen.
