Abstract

On ne le sait pas assez, mais la France est une des nations qui aura le plus contribué à l'élaboration de la pensée économique, avec l'Angleterre et les États-Unis. Cet ouvrage raconte les débats et controverses entre les économistes français, pas seulement les apports théoriques des meilleurs d'entre eux. Ce récit commence en 1789, quand des jeunes économistes observent un système économique, social et politique radicalement nouveau. Ils veulent en déterminer les lois, ils se demandent si ces lois sont équitables et si l'État ne devrait pas orienter l'activité économique. Ils en débattent dans un cadre principalement national jusqu'aux années 1970. Ensuite, ils adoptent progressivement les méthodes utilisées par leurs collègues anglo-saxons. Néanmoins, quelques-uns résistent encore et entretiennent une certaine tradition d'hétérodoxie économique française.
