Abstract

Cette contribution identifie les étapes nécessaires à franchir pour mettre en évidence le regard expert des mécaniciens de rue face aux réparations. Réalisée dans le département de la Seine-Saint-Denis, l'immersion ethnographique dans le monde social des personnes réparant des véhicules en plein air a offert au chercheur la possibilité d'un apprentissage de leur travail grâce au choix d'un engagement direct. Parmi les spécificités de cette activité professionnelle, l'article met en évidence l'importance d'une attention orientée au corps, à la sensorialité, aux outils et aux relations. Les mécaniciens de rue s'apparentent à des experts de la débrouille et proposent différents services à la clientèle en profitant de chaque ressource matérielle et relationnelle à leur disposition.
