Abstract

L'objet de cet article est de comprendre le rôle des effets de réseau locaux et des effets spatiaux dans le développement des plateformes numériques, à travers l'exemple du site de covoiturage iDVROOM. Ce site est une plateforme biface au sens de Rochet et Tirole [2003], mais avec deux spécificités : 1) la plupart des utilisateurs sont sur les deux faces de la plateforme (à la fois conducteurs et passagers) et 2) les utilisateurs interagissent localement, le plus souvent au sein de communautés. Nous analysons l'impact du nombre d'utilisateurs inscrits et de communautés créées sur la croissance de la plateforme. À partir de données couvrant la période 2015-2018, nous montrons que l'activité de covoiturage dans une commune est stimulée à la fois par la création de communautés et par la base d'utilisateurs dans cette commune et dans les communes voisines. Toutefois, les effets de réseau sont modérés par le caractère local des interactions entre utilisateurs de la plateforme.
