Abstract

Résumé : L'objet de cet article est d'analyser les enseignements des théories standards sur l'efficacité de la responsabilité sociale et environnementale des entreprises. D'une façon générale, la responsabilité sociale des entreprises (RSE) et l'intervention de l'Etat sont fréquemment comparées sous le double prisme du bien-être collectif et de la qualité environnementale. Pour certains économistes, la RSE est préférable à l'intervention étatique du point de vue de la maximisation du bien-être collectif, alors que pour d'autres, l'intervention de l'Etat est plus efficace tant du point de vue de la maximisation du bien-être que de la protection de l'environnement. Nous effectuons ainsi un examen critique de quelques modèles de RSE pour identifier et discuter les hypothèses cruciales qui en conditionnent les résultats.
