Abstract

Le programme de recherche partait de l'hypothèse que le transport fluvial combiné fleuveroute pour le transport de conteneurs pouvait s'imposer comme un mode de transport compétitif par rapport à la route à partir du moment où il jouait sur son principal atout qui était celui de la massification des flux. Grâce à nos travaux, nous avons pu mettre en évidence, notamment en nous appuyant sur l'exemple du transport des conteneurs sur la Seine que : le transport combiné fleuve route peut être compétitif en prix par rapport à la route, mais que cette compétitivité dépend de la destination géographique finale dans l'hinterland et du type de transport routier en concurrence ; la compétitivité en termes de prix n'est pas suffisante pour susciter un report modal de la route vers le fleuve. Ce mode de transport doit aussi proposer aux chargeurs des services additionnels, ce qui nécessite un opérateur de transport combiné proposant un service clé en main aux clients ; L'implication des armements maritimes au Havre est décisive pour comprendre l'essor du transport conteneurisé sur la Seine ; Cet essor du transport conteneurisé sur la Seine favorise un renforcement de l'hinterland du Havre sur le bassin parisien dans le cadre de la compétition interportuaire à l'échelle de la rangée Nord Europe ; comme pour les prix, la « compétitivité » du transport combiné fleuve-route par rapport à la route en matière énergétique varie en fonction de la destination géographique dans l'hinterland, du type de convoi fluvial utilisé et en fonction des formes organisationnelles du mode routier en concurrence
