Abstract

La croissance constitue un enjeu majeur. Certains pays comme la France en ont fait une priorité nationale en repositionnant les dispositifs d'aid aux entreprises du champ de la création d'entreprise vers celui de la croissance des entreprises (Hayat, 2012 ; Cour des comptes, 2012). Cet enjeu sociétal entre en résonance avec les préoccupations des chercheurs dans le champ de la PME et de l'entrepreneuriat. Les études consacrées à la croissance des firmes sont désormais légion, ainsi qu'en témoignent des enquêtes récentes et travaux de synthèse (Davidsson et Wiklund, 2000 ; Coad, 2007 ; MacPherson et Holt, 2007 ; Shepherd et Wiklund, 2009 ; McKelvie et Wiklund, 2010 ; Janssen, 2011 ; Wright et Stigliani, 2013 ; Davidsson et Wiklund, 2013). Les travaux se sont ainsi intéressés aux déterminants, aux processus et aux conséquences de la croissance (Davidsson, Achtenhagen et Naldi, 2005 ; Gilbert, McDougall et Audretsh, 2006 ; Janssen, 2011), de même qu'à la diversité des trajectoires de croissance (Delmar, Davidsson et Gartner, 2003) ou à l'analyse spécifique des firmes à forte croissance (Chanut-Guieu et Guieu, 2011). Cependant, si les études empiriques se sont multipliées, des interrogations demeurent quant aux progrès réels des connaissances, et au développement de cadres théoriques robustes (Coad, 2007 ; Shepherd et Wiklund, 2009 ; McKelvie et Wiklund, 2010).
