Migraciones internacionales, remesas y el desarrollo económico: la experiencia latinoamericana

Abstract

América Latina y el Caribe es un exportador de personas al resto del mundo, principalmente debido al menor desempeño económico de la región relativo a otros países/regiones del mundo referente a tasas de crecimiento alto y sostenido, empleos de buena calidad y salarios atractivos.Algunos factores económicos y de economía política, coyunturales y de mediano plazo, que contribuyen a explicar las migraciones en Latinoamérica analizados en este estudio son: a) Las brechas de ingreso per capita entre países, b) crisis financieras y de crecimiento, c) desempleo e informalidad, d) inestabilidad económica y crisis políticas, e) ciclos de democracia y autoritarismo, f) conflictos internos que crean incentivos para emigrar. Este trabajo presenta además las tendencias más recientes en cuanto a las características socio-económicas y demográficas de las personas que emigran, sus preferencias en cuanto a destinos y las principales razones que tienen para dejar sus países. El trabajo también examina la migración de capital humano y talentos.Este documento es parte del proyecto Migración Internacional y Desarrollo: el caso de América Latina realizado en CEPAL con apoyo del BID que incluye cinco estudios nacionales: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador y República Dominicana.
