Determinantes de la pobreza en la región Caribe Colombiana

Abstract

Objetivo: Identificar los factores relacionados con la pobreza en la región Caribe colombiana. Materiales y métodos: Estudio transversal a partir del micro-dato de la Gran Encuesta Integrada de Hogares (GEIH) 2012. Se estimó un modelo econométrico de Umbral Generalizado, la variable dependiente toma tres valores: uno cuando el hogar no es pobre, dos cuando es moderadamente pobre y tres cuando el hogar es extremadamente pobre. Resultados: Se encontró que el nivel educativo, la ocupación y el tamano del hogar son las variables de mayor incidencia. Conclusiones: Se evidenció que la educación determina la posición socioeconómica del hogar. Incentivar el empleo y evitar incrementar el tamano del hogar impactan positivamente en la reducción de la pobreza.
