Desempleo y ocupación en las ciudades colombianas. Un ejercicio con datos panel

Abstract

El presente documento describe los principales indicadores del mercado laboral e indaga sobre los determinantes del desempleo y, alternativamente, del empleo en las ciudades colombianas. Se utilizan datos panel por ciudad de las encuestas de hogares. En general, los factores del lado de la demanda laboral ejercen el mayor efecto (72%) en el desempleo. La formación bruta de capital fijo del sector público y el producto interno bruto son los factores que más inciden en la disminución del desempleo. Por el lado de la oferta laboral que explica alrededor del 26% del desempleo, se constató la importancia de la retención escolar de los jóvenes, específicamente a través de su enganche en la educación superior.
