Economía del cuidado: valoración y visibilización del trabajo no remunerado

Abstract

En este artículo se analizan y discuten los avances en la valorización y visibilización de la economía del cuidado (trabajo no remunerado) en América Latina, haciendo énfasis en las mujeres rurales. Al caracterizar las diferencias en el uso del tiempo entre hombres y mujeres, entre zonas rural y urbana, y entre mujeres jóvenes y adultas, se encuentra que el grupo que más horas a la semana dedica a las labores no remuneradas son las mujeres rurales entre 26 y 35 anos. Se describen las experiencias de México, Uruguay y Colombia en el cálculo de la contribución de la economía del cuidado al PIB y se describen los retos adicionales que tiene este proceso de medición en las zonas rurales. Se analizan las políticas orientadas a ayudar alivianar la carga de trabajo no remunerado de los hogares, diferenciando entre zonas rural y urbana, y se evidencia la dificultad de disenar políticas efectivas para las zonas rurales. Finalmente, se plantean algunas recomendaciones de política.
