Abstract

A lo largo de la historia las sociedades han dado mucha importancia al concepto de progreso. A partir del desarrollo de las cuentas nacionales, debidas a su creador Simon Kuznets el Producto Interno Bruto ha sido el indicador utilizado para medir el nivel de actividad, el desarrollo global de la sociedad, el progreso y el bienestar. Pero ya Kuznets había advertido que tal indicador no era apropiado para medir el nivel de bienestar de una sociedad. Recién en épocas recientes se han desarrollado esfuerzos para proponer mejores indicadores para tales propósitos. Los mismos son analizados en el presente trabajo. Abstract: Throughout history societies have given much importance to the concept of progress. With the development of national accounts, due to its creator Simon Kuznets, Gross Domestic Product has been the indicator used to measure the level of activity, the overall development of society, progress and welfare. But Kuznets had already warned that such an indicator was not appropriate to measure the well-being of a society. Only in recent times efforts have been made to propose best indicators for such purposes. They are analyzed in this paper.
