Estudio exploratorio sobre asequibilidad económica a la vida cotidiana en principales ciudades de Chile

Abstract

This study explores the relationship between household income and monthly expenditures in housing, public transport and the basic basket of goods and services in the main cities of Chile. It analyses the data obtained from CASEN survey, the National Institute of Statistics (INE) and the Ministry of Transports. It is presented the existence of high inequality between incomes and expenditures in the main cities of Chile. The paper call for discussing the implementation of a new instrument such as a Regional CPI for measuring the costs of living in cities. Also, given the severe results of this study, the authority is invited to discuss the possibility of creating better regulations of the basic goods and services’ markets towards creating an affordable everyday life.
