La agricultura del Caribe Colombiano, 1990-1998

Abstract

El objetivo de este documento es analizar el comportamiento del sector agrícola de la región Caribe colombiana entre 1990 y 1998. Los resultados muestran que la caída de la rentabilidad de los productos regionales como resultado de la combinación de tres factores, precios internacionales, tasa de cambio y política comercial, debe llevar a los sectores agrícolas locales a mantener un permanente seguimiento de esos factores. Adicionalmente, la influencia de la región en el establecimiento de una adecuada política de precios agrícolas, que logre filtrar la variabilidad de los mercados internacionales; en el diseño de los instrumentos de política cambiaria, que permitan mantener un manejo favorable de la tasa de cambio; y en la implementación de una política comercial, que apoye a los productos agrícolas locales, será clave en el desarrollo del sector agrícola de esta zona del país.
