Elasticidade De Substituição Para A Carne Bovina Brasileira E Do Mercosul No Mercado Internacional

Abstract

O presente trabalho objetivou avaliar a existência de uma relação de substituição da carne bovina brasileira com os principais países exportadores e do Mercosul com a União Européia e Nafta. Esse estudo adota as pressuposições do modelo de demanda proposto por ARMINGTON (1969a, b), que considera explicitamente o comportamento do consumidor, o qual distingue os produtos por local de origem. Para isto foi utilizado o sistema de equações aparentemente não-relacionados (SUR – Seemingly Unrelated Regression) para estimativa dos modelos. Através dos resultados encontrados para as elasticidades substituição podemos inferir, exceto para a Argentina, que existe significativa diferenciação do produto por local de origem, seja devido à padrões de qualidade, confiança, tradição, diferenças técnicas ou outros fatores. A significância estatística dos coeficientes da defasagem, que representa a rigidez de mercado, indica predominância de contratos de médio e longo prazos. Os resultados também sugerem forte regionalização dos mercados, onde vigoram padrões de qualidade específicos.
