Abstract

Farm information systems are only useful if they provide information needed by managers, but little is known about what information farm managers need. A workshop was developed to help farmers determine their information needs and improve their farm information systems based on sound conceptual foundations. The workshops are a source of data for analyzing farm information needs, including critical success factors and information system strengths and weaknesses. Workshop participants were found to have information needs which varied by farm type and according to their goals. General suggestions for successful management are presented along with implications for future research.
