Abstract

Zusammenfassung Der Beitrag beschreibt drei Aspekte einer kommunikationssoziologischen Perspektive auf soziale Medien: Erstens praxistheoretische Überlegungen, inwieweit soziale Medien das Identitäts-, Beziehungs- und Informationsmanagement von Menschen unterstützen. Zweitens die spezifischen kollektiven Formationen, die soziale Medien ermöglichen, darunter Crowds und Schwärme, Communities und soziale Bewegungen. Und drittens den Wandel von digitaler Öffentlichkeit, den soziale Medien maßgeblich vorantreiben, und der sich an einer Erweiterung der Akteurskonstellation, der gesteigerten Vielfalt verfügbarer Informationen sowie zusätzlicher Kommunikationsmodi von öffentlicher Kommunikation zeigen lässt.
