Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die öffentliche Verwaltung steht vor der größten kommunikativen Herausforderung in ihrer Geschichte. Social Media prägt die Welt der Kommunikation und zwingt auch öffentliche Institutionen zum Handeln. Dieses Kapitel widmet sich der Frage, warum der Einsatz von Social Media für öffentliche Verwaltungen mit besonderen Herausforderungen verbunden ist und welche Chancen sich gleichermaßen auftun. Auf dem Weg zu E-Government und Smart Cities führt kein Weg an zeitgemäßer digitaler Kommunikation veorbei. Dazu müssen in den Verwaltungen organisatorische Entscheidungen getroffen und die Mitarbeitenden mit grundlegenden Kenntnissen und Kompetenzen ausgestattet werden.
