Schmitz Cargobull: Wachstum durch Verzicht — Erfolgsformel in einem reifen Markt

Abstract

Zusammenfassung 1892: Heinrich Schmitz übernimmt die Dorfschmiede in Altenberge bei Münster und baut diese zu einem Wagenbaubetrieb auf. 1935: Die ersten Sattelauflieger und Kofferfahrzeuge werden produziert. 2003: Schmitz Cargobull (SCB) beschäftigt ca. 3.000 Mitarbeiter. Sie stellen jährlich rund 25.000 Fahrzeuge her: 8.000 Sattelkühlkoffer, 14.000 Sattelpritschen, 3.000 Sattelkipper. SCB ist in jedem Land Europas vertreten. Mit einem Marktanteil von rund 20 Prozent ist das Unternehmen die Nr. l im europäischen Aufliegermarkt. Der Umsatz lag 2002/03 bei 835 Millionen EUR (Abbildung 1), der Gewinn vor Steuern bei rund 50 Millionen EUR. Damit war SCB der profitabelste Trailer-Hersteller weltweit. Noch immer ist das Unternehmen in privater Hand.
