Abstract

Zusammenfassung Das Konzept der Vielfalt hat seinen Ursprung in der US-amerikanischen Bürgerrechtsbewegung, die den Rassismus gegenüber farbigen Menschen bekämpfte. Diversity stand also zunächst für die Schaffung von Chancengleichheit für Gruppen, die aufgrund bestimmter Merkmale benachteiligt sind. In den USA führte dies zum Anti-Diskriminierungsgesetz und zur Affirmative Action zur Förderung benachteiligter Gruppen nach den Kriterien Rasse, Geschlecht, Hautfarbe, ethnische Herkunft, Alter, Behinderung oder Religion. Die Bürgerrechtsbewegung der USA hatte einen großen Einfluss auf die Entwicklung weiterer sozialer Bewegungen von zuvor benachteiligten und diskriminierten Gruppen, z. B. auf die Bewegung der amerikanischen Ureinwohner.
