The Psychological Contract

Abstract

The dynamics of social interactionsSocial interactions in the workplace have an important influence on the experience of work wellnessWellness work and the success of the organisation. The influences at work and the management of work form a dynamic and complex system, involving various parties, structures and regulations. The employee–organisation relationshipEmployee–organisation relations (EOR) is the pivotal relationshipPivotal relation in the labour relations systemLabour relations system , since the individual relationships between the employees and their employers are the origin of the complexity and dynamics of the total system. This chapter investigates the psychological contract and the employment relationship components of the employer–organisation relationship in relationEmployment relation to employee wellnessWellness employee . The experience of the psychological contract clearly links to the employment relationship. Thus, the employees’ wellness influences their statePsychological contract state of the psychological contract, which also has an influence on the experience of the employment relationship. The dynamics of the employment relationship is discussed in the following chapter, where the changingLabour relations changing labour relationships of South Africa are also discussed.
