Abstract

The Italian agri-environmental and food sector is affected by multiple conditions and global challenges that limit the potentialities of a sustainable development. Innovations and novel technologies along the supply chain can be helpful to contrast and mitigate the repercussions of such scenarios, enforcing at the same time its sustainability level. The present research has the core purpose of proposing a multimethod approach to identify limitations and potentialities of a specific sensitive food sector, namely the Italian hazelnut growing system. Stemming from multiple secondary and primary sources, it offers a SWOT analysis of the sector, with particular emphasis on the Calabrian producing system. Preliminary results illustrate insights on the potentialities for its own development and the contribution to the valorization of the national supply chain as a whole.
