Abstract

Understanding business capabilities required to grow or transform an enterprise is an important starting point for defining data and analytics strategy. Different enterprises have different market challenges/opportunities and, therefore, different business priorities. Data and analytics strategy must be aligned with business priorities. Business capabilities can broadly be grouped into two categories: (a) enterprise performance management, and (b) digital transformation. These two, however, are not mutually exclusive. A structured three-step approach is required to define enterprise data and analytics strategy, starting with “enterprise churning” or “samudra manthan” and culminating into creating an integrated roadmap to implement the strategy. While laying down the roadmap, inter alia, it is important to understand the typical nature of data and analytics maturity evolution within an enterprise.
