Success Factors for the Implementation

Abstract

A large number of Data Governance initiatives fail already in the implementation phase. The reasons for failure are manifold and often very individual. However, if we look at the other side and search for commonalities in Data Governance implementations that are sustainably successful, we can see clear success factors from which we can learn for the development of our own Data Governance. In this chapter, we branch out into the importance that resourcing, identifying issues and challenges as implementation drivers, and empowering staff in Data Management skills can have on the implementation success of Data Governance. We also delve into initial soft factors such as value-added principles, organizational structures, communications, and corporate culture. This chapter is intended as a good compass to prevent you from getting off the successful implementation path of a Data Governance rollout right at the beginning.
